Anonymous asked: How often do employers really follow up on the person applying to their company? I mean, do they REALLY check to see if they have that degree from Columbia?

If you’re applying to a mid to small size company there is zero chance anyone is going to call your school, so lie away. Don’t go too over the top with the Harvard stuff because for your entire employment people will assume you’re smart and call you “Mr. Harvard” (I know this from experience). I have interviewed a million people and I don’t even look at what school they went to. In our line of business we just care about your portfolio and work experience.

If you’re applying to a big company with a giant fancy HR department with piss tests to make sure you’re not enjoying your life with drugs, then you’ll probably get every square inch of your resume examined.

Though, who wants to work at a big company anyway?
