This is completely wacky, lets look at Nix vs. Hedden…

In 1893 the Supreme Court of the United States decided in a landmark case that tomatoes are to be classified as a vegetable. Despite the scientific fact that tomatoes are a fruit, they decided that because we use tomatoes in a similar method we use a vegetable, they should be classified and taxed as such. Back then imported vegetables got taxed, not fruits.

I’m not 100% positive how you can “use something like a vegetable” but they claim “they are seen as vegetables because they were usually eaten as a main course instead of being eaten as a dessert.” Rather than just pass a law that said tomatoes should be taxed they decided to go against any sort of fact or reason. So when you think our government is stupid and backwards now, this happened in 1893.
